Described by Alan Hunt, Director Supply Chain as,
“the best consultancy I have ever worked with”, Ithaca was originally invited
to conduct review of total transport operation during 2007. At this point 3
‘Quick Hit’ projects have been facilitated – in Linen, CSSD and Post/Health
Records – saving £98.9K per annum.
A further two medium – long term transport and
supply chain projects have been recommended, saving at least a further £400K
per annum.
Delivered, “the best change management program I
have ever seen” (Pam Balstrup, Manager - Operating Suite Service Area) for The
Alfred Hospital, Melbourne's major trauma hospital, realising one-off AUD$3M,
recurrent 7% saving in working capital spend, 65% reduction of total
cost-to-serve in support activities whilst improving customer service delivery
to 99%+.
Won tender to develop and deliver a twice-yearly
2-day program to Australian Army intermediate officers. Program content focused
on practical commercial process operations and strategy.
Gathered together a consortium including DHL, Pacific
Commerce, the Medical Industry Association of Australia, Scan Modul System AS
and Healthspace to deliver a leading edge solution to automatically manage
Goulburn Valley Hospital's supply chains. Won grant funding for up to 50% of
the project from DCITA and delivered an outcome that has been adopted and
expanded within the sector.
This rapidly growing full service UK facilities
management company asked Ithaca to help them develop critical path processes
plus source and select a suitable SaaS system to support their processes.We’re now moving forward with the
Implementation Project – plus Health & Safety – plus ISO 9001 and ISO 14001…establishing
the framework for their future success!
Ithaca designed and led a comprehensive Business
Continuity project across 10 sites in 6 countries for this self-adhesive label
supplier. This ensured the major threats
to business continuity – internal systems, data integrity, planning, succession
– were addressed alongside what are seen as the traditional foci for such
projects.A series of training seminars
and simulation exercises was used to conclude the project.
Prosonix Ltd – Process Optimisation / ISO 9001
Ithaca’s ISO 9001 project for Prosonix commenced
with a comprehensive review of all their business processes, culminating in a
series of recommendations for process and systems improvement – some short-term
and some longer term.Only at this point
did the ISO 9001 (2008) work commence.The final stages of this are underway, with the Certification Audit
scheduled for June 2009.
Blade Runners Hair & Beauty – Marketing & Advice
Ithaca’s Customer Survey underpinned the
development of a comprehensive Marketing Plan for this Notting Hill Salon.As we facilitated the implementation of the
plan we also provided business planning, systems and operational support,
enabling the proprietors to significantly improve their ability to manage the
business efficiently and effectively.
Sentient Health – Independent Case Studies
Ithaca has carried out two projects for Sentient
Health, both involving the design, research and writing of independent Case
Studies.The first was a Comparative Study
of Materials Management Efficiency in a Japanese and Australian hospital
respectively – one using Sentient’s solution, the other without.Our second project was a Case Study of
Sentient’s implementation of MedTrac at a major London Cardiac Hospital – both studies
are available on our downloads page.
Salmat – Inventory Optimisation & Control
Ithaca
conducted a Quick-Hit project to identify Salmat’s detailed inventory
management and control issues causing variable margin outcomes.Once done Ithaca develop and recommended
changes to the process methodologies and systems used in Salmat’s inventory and
purchasing activities.

Ithaca’s newest client is a start-up online
retailer of intelligent health and weight management products.Our initial brief was to intervene in the
launch campaign for the website to ensure as smooth a start as possible – and,
while supporting this, we have now moved into comprehensive Business Planning
to ensure the Principals are able to achieve their objectives.
Facilitated implementation of S&OP for leading
teams of 3 business divisions, enabling whole of business optimisation
decisions, reductions in inventory and waste (AUD$100M+), improvements in
customer service levels (25 %+) and sales margins (3 %+).
Initiated project focused on accrediting supply
chain for delivery of flu vaccines from Australia to the UK incorporating GMP,
GWP, TGA, ISO and HACCP requirements under a cold chain umbrella monitored,
signed off by all supply chain participants.
Process mapped and analysed carton packaging
enterprise from raw material sourcing through manufacturing to customer
delivery. Optimisation plan and risk analysis reduced transactions - 80%, costs
- 10%, inventory - 50%.
Radius Wood Products – Systems Analysis & Sourcing
Ithaca designed a new
approach to S&OP in a wood products environment, developing functional software
specifications that addressed the need to forecast both supply (logs) and
demand (wood products sales) – balancing the two to achieve optimal supply
chain and organisational outcomes.We
conducted the RFI and identified the systems vendors for this project,
concluding our involvement with a recommended Implementation Pathway.
BUPA – Hurstville Process / Inventory Optimisation
Following Ithaca’s success in process and
inventory optimisation for public hospitals we were asked to apply the same
methodology for BUPA Healthcare’s Hurstville Hospital.Our report and implementation plan included
opportunities to reduce the year-on-year working capital budget by 5%, reduce
clinical staff time spent on administrative work by 80%+ and automate the
re-order process.
Led the supply chain analysis and re-design
aspects of a project for a major UK High Street retailer (150+ stores) -
providing opportunity to save a net £21 Million per annum in end-to-end
business process costs - working in conjunction with Lansdowne Consulting
Bulla Cream – Export Supply Chain
Ithaca worked with Bulla Cream to develop a
comprehensive map of their export supply chains from Australia to all parts of
the world.This was part of the
Australian Logistics Assured Programme for Cold Chain Exports, supported by the
Victorian Government.
CSL Behring – Global Supply Chain Baseline &
Improvement
One of Ithaca’s current projects is with CSL Behring.The initial phases are producing a
comprehensive, in-depth map of their current global supply chain, inclusive of
developing a Cost Model enabling apples / apples comparisons to be conducted
for the first time.
Mayne
Ithaca’s Principal, Gen Ford, undertook a series
of projects for Mayne over a number of years.These included:
Design start-up health logistics business leveraging Mayne
